A new swathe of regeneration projects for Liverpool valued at £1.5bn has been revealed today, which include an ice rink at Kings Dock and the creation of a music venue, hotel, cinema and shops at Lime Street and Mount Pleasant.

An Olympic standard ice rink, extreme sports complex, restaurants and family housing are proposed for the next phase of the Kings Dock regeneration.

Meanwhile, in the Lime Street and Mount Pleasant area there is set to be a new television and music venue, hotel, cinema, restaurants, shops and accommodation for mature students.

The proposals, which are currently in the initial development stages, have been unveiled by the council and could bring 12,000 construction jobs, 4,000 permanent roles and safeguard a further 3,000.

The plans are to be presented to the city's cabinet today (May 16 2014) as part of a regeneration update.

Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson said: "These schemes demonstrate there is a vibrant, exciting future ahead for Liverpool. The projects we are developing for Kings Dock and Lime Street will make the city an even greater place to live, work and invest.

"Crucially though, they will bring thousands of jobs into the city which will ensure we have a sustainable future. I promised our best days are ahead of us, and these key projects are evidence of some of the things we have planned for the future.

"Lime Street has been an area which was forgotten for far too long. It is one of the first things visitors to our city see when they step off the train and I am committed to transforming this into the gateway our world-class city deserves.

"Regenerating the city centre is vital but we are also working hard to deliver transformation across Liverpool as a whole – Great Homer Street, Edge Lane and Anfield are all now seeing significant progress and there will be more to come in the future, with thousands of new and refurbished homes planned city-wide."

Planning applications for the new schemes are set to be submitted by the end of 2014 or early 2015.
