A TEENGER needed hospital treatment after he was assaulted by a gang in an unprovoked attack in Wallasey.

Police were called to Seabank Road at about 10.45pm on Friday, April 25 following reports of an attack.

The victim, an 18-year-old man, was walking along the road when a group of around six men ran up behind him and assaulted him, leaving him with injuries to his face and wrist.

The offenders – who wore dark clothing and hooded tops covering their faces – ran away towards Egremont.

The victim was taken to Arrowe Park Hospital and has since been discharged.

A full investigation into the assault is underway, with house-to-house enquiries being carried out as well as CCTV from the area being examined.

Detective Constable Chris O'Connor, said: "A young man has been the victim of a very nasty and unprovoked attack, which has left him needing to go to hospital.

”We will do everything we can to identify the people responsible and I would appeal to anyone with information to call police.

”Although it was late at night, it is possible someone saw the incident or a group of men acting suspiciously in the area. Any information provided will be looked at by officers and could be vital for our enquiries."
