WIRRAL Globe readers are being encouraged to get out and about as part of the borough's second annual Walking Festival.
The month-long event starts tomorrow, May, with five walks planned on the first day. In total, 102 walks are taking place throughout the month.
On the first day there is a 4 ½ mile circular walk taking place this morning from the Irby Mill pub.
There is also a tour of Flaybrick Cemetery in Bidston. Led by Wirral History and Heritage Association, it will focus on military graves.
Members of the Port Sunlight Museum and Garden Village four walks around the public gardens from 2.30pm – 4pm.
Two of the regular scheduled walks – the Walking For Health walk at Royden Park and Buggy Park Fitness at Birkenhead Park – are also taking place tomorrow to conclude a busy first day of the festival.
Other highlights throughout the month include on Sunday, a very early morning walk through Wirral Country Park to mark International Dawn Chorus Day.
It is a 4.30am start for those who wish to join the Rangers for a walk around the park to listen to resident and newly-arrived migrant birds burst into song. If you have them, bring a pair of binoculars.
