TRANMERE Rovers face their most important game in 20 years on Saturday – and their chief executive says fans' support is crucial in the club's fight to remain in League One.

Jeremy Butler was speaking ahead of Rovers' final game of the season at Prenton Park.

Tranmere, who last played in the fourth tier in 1988-1989, will be relegated if they lose to Bradford.

Even a victory may not be enough to guarantee safety.

They must rely on teams around them dropping points if they are to survive.

Calling on supporters to rally round, Jeremy – who took over the role from Mick Horton earlier this month – told the Globe: "This is an absolutely crucial game; one that will determine where we are next season.

"So it is more important than ever now that our fantastic supporters play their part in helping to keep us in League One.

"We are well aware of the consequences of doing the job correctly and also of what can happen if we fail to do so on Saturday.

"The support of our fans is crucial to our survival in the league.

"It's going to be a nerve-racking weekend.

"I want our fans to come along, shout, cheer, sing and do all they can to boost the squad on Saturday."

The situation became critical after last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at Leyton Orient, which plunged Tranmere into the table’s bottom four at the worst possible time.

Caretaker manager John McMahon said: "It's the worst scenario that you can go into, but it's a game we go into knowing we have to win.

"There's a stigma that goes with relegation. I don’t want to be labelled with that, and neither do the players."
