MORE than 140 young Wirral jobseekers had a chance to brush up on their employment skills during a special event in Birkenhead.

The 16-to-24 year olds met potential employers during the Pop Up Talent event at the Pyramids Centre in Birkenhead.

They also had a chance to have a go at many different jobs, which included plastering, wood graining, sewing and also driving a remote control miniature fork lift truck.

The first of its kind, Pop Up Talent Wirral was developed and organised by Forum Housing, Wirral Council, Jobcentre Plus, Wirral Metropolitan College, national careers service and Connexions.

Kate Shone, event organiser, said: "It was great to see so many young people, employers and providers engaging in positive discussions.

"We have received some excellent feedback from young people and employers, our job now is to follow up with everyone to see how they have progressed."

Council leader Phil Davies, Jean Stapleton and Brian Kenny popped in to support the event as well.

Councillor Davies said: "The Pop-up Talent event was an excellent opportunity for young people to meet a range of employers and discuss possible employment opportunities.

"The fact that it took place in the Wirral Met College shop in The Pyramids meant that it was extremely accessible and welcoming to young people.

"I would like to congratulate Forum Housing, Wirral Met College and the other agencies who took part in what I hope will be the first of many such events."
