ALMOST 1,000 women have signed up for this year's Wirral Race For Life in aid of Cancer Research UK.

The Globe-backed event will be held in Birkenhead Park on Sunday, July 27.

Last year, 3443 women took part and raised a fantastic £153,104.

Its organisers need 3600 women and girls to stride out this time around to help raise £350,000. So far, 941 have signed up.

Jennifer Ward, Cancer Research UK's North West events manager, said: "Race for Life events are not competitive. They are not about being fit or fast.

"Instead, they are an amazing way to celebrate life but also remember those who have been lost to the disease.

"Participants may be walking, jogging or running but what's inescapable is the power and strength that comes from thousands of women joining together to confront cancer."
