SHOTS were fired at a Wirral home in what police are treating as a “targeted attack” last night.

Merseyside Police are now investigating the incident in Upton Road, Prenton, which happened just after 10pm.

Patrols were called to the street, close to its junction with Noctorum Avenue, after a man wearing a crash helmet was seen getting out of a silver car and firing shots at the window of a property.

Upon arrival, officers found damage to the window of an upstairs flat consistent with a firearms discharge.

Police say no one was injured and the scene remains cordoned off for forensic examination work to be carried out.

A 26-year-old and an 18-year-old man from the Birkenhead area were arrested at the property on suspicion of obstruction and possession of a firearm without a certificate.

They were questioned by detectives and have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

A full investigation into the incident is on-going and house-to-house enquiries are being carried out.

CCTV from the area is also being checked.

Detective Inspector Ian Hussey said: "Our investigation is at an early stage and we are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry, one of which is that this was a targeted attack.

"I would urge anyone who saw people acting suspiciously in the area last night, or anyone with information about the incident, to get in touch with us."

Neighbourhood Inspector for Birkenhead, Duncan Swan, said: "High visibility patrols have been stepped up to reassure the community in Prenton and will remain so over the Easter period.

"Officers will also be dropping off letters with local people to appeal for information and I would ask them to call us if they know anything, no matter how trivial the information may seem."
