CAMMELL Laird has submitted plans for a new warehouse and office that could see the creation of up to 50 jobs.
The firm's application for temporary facilities near its site in Campbeltown Road is currently being considered by Wirral's planning committee.
The planned office would be used by teams looking after wind farms off the Merseyside coast.
Among the plans is the installation of an identical warehouse unit for dry storage of high value equipment and components to be used for the construction of Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm.
A floating pontoon would also form part of the development.
If the scheme is approved it could see as many as 45 jobs created in the renewable energy and engineering sector.
In its report to planners, Laird says the additional warehouse was required because the existing permanent warehouse that was originally going to be leased is now no longer vacant.
The shipbuilding firm has applied to build the structure on a Wirral council-run public car park next to its Birkenhead site.
In a supporting statement forming part of Cammell Laird’s application, architecture company Ainsley Gommon said the facility would "serve as a marine operations and maintenance facility for off shore projects such as wind farms sited in the Liverpool Bay and Irish Sea."
Cammell Laird was approached by the Globe for a comment, but declined our invitation.
