BIRKENHEAD tunnel has reopened after a three car collision led to it being closed for four hours.
--------------------------------
A THREE-car collision has led to the closure of the Queensway tunnel.
Witnesses described seeing a large number of emergency services, including police and ambulances, entering the Birkenhead tunnel shortly after 2.20pm today, Friday.
A spokesman for Merseytravel said the tunnel was closed in both directions and would remain so while the accident - involving three cars - is cleared.
The crash is in the middle of the tunnel with long queues back to Liverpool.
Four people are said to have been injured in the smash.
Mersey Tunnel police are currently in the process of removing the vehicles but the tunnel is expected to remain closed for at least an other hour.
Traffic is being diverted to the Wallasey tunnel.
