TRANMERE Rovers chairman Peter Johnson will be quizzed over the progress of the club's potential sale during a public meeting this weekend.

He will take questions from Rovers Supporters Trust during the meeting at Belmont Suite, Prenton Park at 12.30pm, ahead of Tranmere’s League One encounter with Carlisle United later that afternoon.

Mr Johnson said last week he believed he had found the right person to become its new owner.

He expects to be able to make an announcement within a couple of weeks and that he is "quite confident" a deal will be completed.

He said: "It's very important we find the right people.

"I've had to find someone who loves the club and the fans can trust and I think I've done that now.

"We expect to make an announcement fairly soon, within a couple of weeks I would think.

"They're a bit younger than I am, they've got the money and I'm satisfied the fans will be able to trust them."

The club has been up for sale since 2002. Tranmere Rovers Supporters' Trust recently staged a public fundraising campaign to try to raise cash for a takeover, but did not manage to hit their £500,000 target.

Mr Johnson said he expected the deal to go through "in about two weeks" but nothing was yet certain.
