Police are appealing for the public to be cautious after prescription medication was stolen during a burglary at a pharmacy in Prenton on Sunday.

Officers were called to the store on Holmlands Drive after being alerted that the intruder alarm had been activated.

Patrols attended and inquiries were carried out. It's believed around 150 tablets of dihydrocodeine were stolen during the incident, which took place at around 2.20am.

The medication is thought to be in orange packaging and white plastic click-lock containers.

CCTV from the area is being located and reviewed and an investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident is continuing.

Officers are reminding people that taking medication which hasn't been prescribed for them can be dangerous and can even prove fatal.

Anyone who finds any of the medication is asked to hand it in to any pharmacy or their nearest police station.

Anyone with any other information about the incident should contact officers via the police non-emergency 101 number or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
