Detectives have released CCTV images of men they would like to speak to following two recent robberies at shops in Birkenhead.

Officers have been carrying out inquiries and say the two incidents may be linked.

The first occurred at Bargain Booze, on Borough Road at around 9pm on Tuesday, March 11, after two men with their faces covered threatened staff to hand over cigarettes and alcohol.

The staff were not injured during the incident but were left very shaken.

The second occurred at Simply Drinks, Rose Mount, Oxton, around 8pm on Thursday, March 20.

Three men entered the store, again with their faces covered, and stole a large quantity of cigarettes and the till.

Detective Constable Andy Uren said: "Incidents of this nature are completely unacceptable and are very upsetting for the staff members who are put in fear for their safety while they are trying to earn an honest day's living.

"We are keen to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.

"We appeal to anyone who may have any information about this incident, anyone who recognises the men pictured in the CCTV or anyone who witnessed anyone acting suspiciously in the areas around the shops at the time of the incidents to contact us."

He added: "I would also like to take this opportunity to remind people that it is a criminal offence to buy stolen goods so please be mindful if you are offered any cheap cigarettes or alcohol."

Anyone with any information should call Wirral CID on 0151 777 226, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
