A WIRRAL charity helping children with cerebral palsy has received a cash boost from Merseyside Police Federation's Charitable Trust.

Stick 'n' Step, based in Wallasey, was founded in 2002 to provide free specialist conductive education and support services to children with cerebral palsy, their families and carers across the North West and North Wales.

The MPFCT donates money to causes recommended to them by police officers and staff.

On Friday members of the trust, accompanied by Chief Constable Jon Murphy, presented the charity with a cheque for £15,000.

It was raised during a dinner in November specifically to raise money for worthy causes in Merseyside.

Trust chairman Peter Singleton said: "Stick 'n' Step is a fantastic charity helping children with cerebral palsy.

"With the pioneering techniques they use they are able to help the children achieve amazing results.

"The charity provides a truly wonderful service to the families and children they support and we are delighted to be able to present them with this cheque, which is the most we have ever raised at our annual dinner."

Kerry Roe-Ely, community and events fundraiser for the charity, said: "We were thrilled to be chosen as Merseyside Police Federation's charity of the year in 2013-2014.

"The money raised is the equivalent of funding seven children to attend Stick 'n' Step for 12 months, so it really will have a significant impact towards our annual fundraising requirement.

"It is a huge honour to be the charity benefiting from the most raised ever at a single event by the Federation and we are extremely grateful for their commitment to our cause."
