A STATE-of-the-art projector is now on its way to a Wirral special school after a year of fundraising by Mersey tunnels staff.
Foxfield Special School's new toy - a classroom blackboard-sized touch screen that will be suspended from the hall ceiling and linked to a computer.
Once installed, pupils will be able to use it during PE and drama lessons, assemblies and concerts at the Moreton school.
The equipment costs more than £3,000, but £1,500 of that has come from tunnel toll staff, police, maintenance and administration teams who have held prize draws and raffles.
"This is a fantastic piece of technology and something which will send us into the 21st Century", said acting headteacher Paul Howley.
"Our thanks go to everyone from Mersey Tunnels who have helped raise this money.
"They have been raising money for us for more than 10 years and are one of our biggest fundraisers. One member of the tunnel staff is a parent of an ex-pupil .We are very grateful for their support."
Ken McGlashan, chair of the tunnels' board, said: "Foxfield School is very close to the hearts of tunnels staff for many reasons and we have supported the school very well over the years.
"They are a fantastic group of young people and deserve all our support. We are very pleased that the money will be put to such good use."
The school, in Douglas Drive, caters for young people between the ages of 11 and 19 who have learning difficulties.
