TRANMERE Rovers assistant manager John McMahon was full of praise for his side after their 3-2 win over Notts County at Prenton Park.

Rovers had fallen behind to a Ronan Murray strike, but goals from Jason Koumas and Ryan Lowe in quick succession put them ahead at half-time.

Alan Sheehan, who had earlier seen a penalty saved by Owain Fon Williams, curled County level from a free kick.

Ten minutes later, Jennings won a challenge midway inside the County half and played the ball to Koumas, who slotted it into the bottom right corner from 20 yards.

The win lifted Rovers out of the relegation zone and into 19th place in League One.

In his post-match interview, McMahon said: "I think we definitely deserved the victory.

“We showed a lot of guts, spirit and also a lot of good football as well.

"We were unfortunate to go behind but we showed good attitude and character to bounce back from that.

“We kept believing in what we were doing and you get rewards from that.”

After appearing to battle through injury for much of the half Wallace had to be replaced by Max Power on 37 minutes.

Koumas had to be substituted due to injury six minutes into the second half, with Andy Robinson his replacement.

McMahon added: "It was tough losing your two most influential players who can change games.

“They affect games in a massive way and you're thinking where do we go from here.

"But the players who came in...fair play to them.”

"I also thought the fans were fantastic - they stuck with the players and got behind them and everyone got their reward for a good performance.

"The victory is sweet. It meant everything to everyone.”

Rovers are away to eleventh-placed Port Vale this Saturday.

McMahon said: “It’s a massive game for us. Points are vital.

“With no game during the week it means we’ve got time to analyse our performance and see where we can improve for Saturday."
