AFTER an absence of more than six years, scouting has returned to the Beechwood Estate.
When Birkenhead District Commissioner Paul Coleman saw a gap in the area's Scouting offering, he soon put plans in place and before long, the 1st Beechwood Scout Group was born.
Since opening its doors on January 12, the group has seen more than 100 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts pass over its threshold and enjoy the wide range of activities it offers.
Paul Coleman said: "There is a definite need for Scouting and all that it offers in areas such as Beechwood.
"Young people of all ages can benefit from fun and friendship, challenge and everyday adventure and we have a positive impact on young people, our adult volunteers and the communities in which we live."
The group’s success is down to the enthusiasm of the new volunteer team led by Group Scout Leader Kevin Jones and his ability to persuade members of the community to become section leaders for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.
Kevin also managed to get sponsorship and support from local businesses and organisations.
He s\ "With the backing of the local community, the future of Scouting on the Beechwood Estate looks very promising,” said Kevin.
