DETECTIVES are hunting a suspected flasher after a man allegedly exposed himself to a woman and child in Birkenhead.

The woman and her young son were walking on Park Road West, close to the entrance of Birkenhead Park at around 3.45pm on Tuesday when they saw a man exposing himself.

After being alerted by the woman, police attended and carried out a search of the area.

Enquiries are still ongoing and police are hoping to trace the man, who is described as being white, in his 50s, of a stocky build with a shaven head.

Police say he was wearing a black leather jacket, light washed jeans and sunglasses.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said an investigation into the full circumstances of the incident is ongoing.

Detective Inspector Mark Tivendale, from Wirral CID, said: "I would like to reassure the community that we are taking this matter extremely seriously.

“This was a disturbing incident for this woman and her child who have been left shocked and disgusted.

"The area would have been busy around this time and I am sure someone will remember seeing this man or recognise him.

“We are keen to trace him so that we can speak to him about this allegation and I would appeal to anyone who knows who he is to come forward."
