POLICE are hunting a thug who used a knuckle-duster to punch a Birkenhead couple and then tried to rob them as they walked home from a night out together.
They have released a picture a man they want to speak to following the assault on Saturday, March 1.
At about 2.30am that day, the couple were walking along Borough Road near to Birkenhead Central Library when they were approached by two unknown men.
The thugs demanded money from the couple and when they refused one - who was wearing a knuckle-duster - punched them in the face.
The victims somehow managed to fight off their attacker, who fled the scene with his accomplice.
Emergency services were called and both victims were taken to hospital for treatment for cuts and bruising.
Police say the couple have been left shaken by their ordeal.
Officers believe the man pictured above may be able to assist them with their inquiries and they urge him or anyone who recognises him to get in touch.
An investigation into the full circumstances of the incident is ongoing.
Anyone with information should call Merseyside Police 0151 777 2263 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
