TWO men have been arrested after a charity collection was stolen when a Wirral takeaway and bookmakers was burgled.

Police were called to Tranmere Court, off Church Road, Birkenhead, at 3am on Monday following reports of a break-in.

A small quantity of cash, believed to be from a charity collection, was stolen from the Ladbrokes betting shop on site.

Damage was caused to both properties but nothing was taken from the takeaway.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: “Officers attended and conducted a search of the area. Two men, aged 27 from Wallasey and 26 from Prenton were arrested nearby a short time later.

“CCTV from the surrounding area is being examined and both scenes have been forensically examined.”

The men, who were arrested on suspicion of burglary, have since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
