21-year-old shot in Birkenhead street was victim of 'targeted' attack

Patrols have been stepped up in the area to reassure the local community and detectives are appealing for anyone with information to come forward
Detectives from the specialist Matrix serious organised crime unit are appealing for information after a 21-year-old man was shot in Birkenhead last night.
Officers were called to Laird Street just before 10.30pm to reports of a local man being shot in the leg.
The victim was taken to hospital where he is being treated for the injury, which is not believed to be life-threatening.
Police say it is thought the man, who is believed to have been the victim of a "targeted" attack, was actually shot in Connaught Way, before escaping to Laird Street.
Crime Scene Investigators are carrying out forensic examinations at the scene and house-to-house inquiries are underway.
