FIREFIGHTERS used hydraulic equipment to help paramedics free a driver from his car following a two-vehicle crash in Eastham this morning.

Emergency services were called to Heygarth Road at around 9am.

The incident, involving a Ford Mondeo Zetec and silver Ford Fiesta, had taken place on Bridle Road at its junction with Eastham Village Road, affecting traffic from the A53 towards Eastham.

Both cars were moved to nearby Heygarth Road as part of the clear-up operation.

Firefighters removed the roof of one car and helped paramedics lift the man onto a stretcher and carry him to a waiting ambulance.

A woman was out of the other vehicle before firefighters arrived. She was also assessed by paramedics at the scene.

Crews from Bromborough and Birkenhead fire stations attended the call-out along with the Incident Management Team.
