Talented youngsters at Wallasey School have recently performed the schools version of the hit West End musical Les Misérables, by Shönberg and Boublil.

Over three nights, the 40 strong-cast sang with power and passion to a packed out hall, captivating their audience, bringing many to tears and the majority to their feet.

Head of drama and director of the show, Joe Dutfield said: “The wonderful cast and backstage crew were a pleasure to work with; they are reliable, hardworking and passionate. Every single one of them deserves a mention. They have all made us feel very proud.

“The quality of performance from our students is exceptionally high and this is based on the continuous development of them as confident young performers throughout their time at Wallasey School.

“Those involved back stage where absolutely key to providing the dramatic back-drop to complement the show and worked tirelessly to ensure it ran smoothly. They have learnt valuable skills in staging, lighting, costume and props as well as developing their team-work and self-management skills.”

The school's ‘Les Misérables’ journey started way back in September last year when staff held three workshop auditions and then solo auditions to find their cast. From amongst the many talented students within the school, interest was high, competition was fierce, and it wasn’t difficult to find a Valjean, Javert, Eponine and the other 30 or so characters to play the main roles, with all year groups represented.

Headteacher, Mrs Cawood said: “The quality of the music and singing is exceptional and we are all incredibly proud of everything the staff and students have achieved as members of a very dedicated and driven team.

”I have received numerous thank you messages from those who attended the show, these comments are a true reflection of all the hard work and commitment that is put into place to ensure our students achieve at the highest possible levels”.

At the end of the opening night’s performance the Mayor of Wirral, Dave Mitchell spoke to the audience and all those involved.

He said: “I’d like to congratulate all the cast, that was absolutely brilliant, one of the best evening’s entertainments I have had during my time as Mayor."
