THE Wirral Half Marathon and 10k is in the running for a tourism award.

It is shortlisted for Event Of The Year in the Wirral Tourism Awards 2014.

The winners will be announced during a dinner at the Floral Pavilion Theatre and conference centre in New Brighton on April 2.

Organised by BTR Liverpool, the inaugural Half Marathon took place in October 2013, attracting over almost 1,800 runners from Wirral, the wider Liverpool City Region and from across the country.

It also featured the BTR Liverpool 10k race, which in itself attracted almost 900 runners.

Alan Rothwell, Race Director at BTR Liverpool, said: "We are delighted that the BTR Wirral Half Marathon/10k has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Wirral Tourism Awards 2014.

"This was the first event of its kind, so for it to be named as a finalist in its inaugural year is a huge coup.

"The event attracted a huge cross-section of runners, from experienced runners chasing a personal best, to those running with friends for personal achievement.

"We must also make mention of the dedicated marshalls, volunteers and spectators who all brought colour to the event.

"We look forward to building on the success of last year’s event by creating a headline Autumn event for Wirral – people are already signing up for the 2014 event.”
