AN 88-year-old man who was hospitalised following a road accident in Prenton is said to be in a “serious” condition.

The pensioner was taken to Fazakerley Hospital with serious head injuries last Tuesday, February 11, after he was hit by a white Renault Bippa van at the junction of Woodchurch Road and Prenton Dell Road.

His condition was initially described as critical, but a police spokesman today told the Globe he was now in a serious condition.

The driver of the van stopped at the scene and is helping officers with their inquiries.

An investigation into the full circumstances surrounding the incident – which happened at around 3.10pm – is underway.

Sergeant Jason Higham, from Matrix Serious Organised Crime Roads Policing Unit, said: "The collision happened at a really busy time of the afternoon as the school run was in full swing.

"A number of people stopped at the scene and I would like to thank them for their help with our inquiries.

"However, I still really need to speak to people who witnessed the collision, or have any other information, but haven't come forward already."
