MOTORISTS are being warned to expect severe delays during the evening rush hour due to a number of traffic light failures in Bromborough.
Traffic signals on New Chester Road at its junctions with Caldbeck Road and Croft Avenue East - close to the Croft Business Park - are currently disabled due to cable faults.
The traffic lights have been out since around 11am this morning and are likely to affect Monday evening's peak time commuters.
A spokesman for Wirral Council said their traffic signal maintenance contractor, Siemens, is currently undertaking urgent repairs to rectify the problem at the earliest opportunity.
“Several measures have been undertaken to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum,” said the spokesman.
Traffic is currently prohibited from entering New Chester Road from Caldbeck Road and Croft Avenue East, with alternative routes signposted accordingly.
Advanced information is also displayed on the council’s electronic variable message signs to pre-warn motorists of delays.
The council spokesman added: “We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause and we will endeavour to keep any disruption to a minimum.”
