A MOTORIST had a lucky escape during Monday morning’s rush hour when his car skidded off the road and ended up lodged in a Wirral oil depot.
Drivers using the New Ferry Bypass experienced delays after the driver of the blue Mazda 6 accidentally mounted the curb, sending his car spiralling through both the air and a nearby hedge, before coming to a halt among the nearby oil drums.
Emergency services were called to the bypass at 9.30am on Monday after reports that a car had gone off the road.
The crash happened close to Cammell Laird.
The Mazda, registered to a south Liverpool man, rolled on the southbound side of the carriageway before ending up in the hedge, between New Chester Road and the Cammell Laird roundabout.
The driver, who escaped without injury, was already out of the car when police arrived and firefighters made it safe by disconnecting the power.
The road remained closed until 11am while the vehicle was recovered.
