A WIRRAL schoolgirl was approached by a man who called her over to his car as she walked to school on Wednesday.

The 11-year-old girl was making her way to Lingham Primary School along Town Meadow Lane, Moreton, when the incident happened at around 9.30am.

The man gestured to her twice to come towards him from a dark blue car, believed to be a Renault Clio.

She ignored him and ran off towards her school, where she reported the incident to staff.

Police have since stepped up patrols and a full investigation is underway, with CCTV from the area being located and reviewed.

The man is described as being white with dark hair.

Wallasey Neighbourhood Inspector Peter Kolokotroni said: “We treat all reports of suspicious behaviour extremely seriously and high visibility patrols have been stepped up in the area to provide reassurance for the local community.

"Officers work closely with local schools and regularly give 'stranger danger' advice to pupils.

"The area would have been busy with school traffic when the incident happened and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed it, or has any other information which could help with our investigation, to get in touch."
