More than 100 women join Wirral's Race For Life
MORE than 150 women have signed up for this year’s Wirral Race For Life in aid of Cancer Research UK.
The Globe-backed event will be held in Birkenhead Park on Sunday, July 27.
Last year, 3443 women took part and raised a fantastic £153,104. This year, organisers need 3600 women and girls to stride out to help raise £350,000.
Jennifer Ward, Cancer Research UK's North West events manager, said: "Race for Life events are not competitive. They are not about being fit or fast.
"Instead, they are an amazing way to celebrate life but also remember those who have been lost to the disease.
"Participants may be walking, jogging or running but what’s inescapable is the power and strength that comes from thousands of women joining together to confront cancer."
Cancer Research UK receives no Government funding for its ground-breaking work but with help from the people of the North West the charity intends to beat cancer sooner.
Among those taking part last year was Upton-based nurse Mary Evans who survived breast cancer and is stepping up her fight against the disease.
Joining her were sisters Tracy Colley, Helen Ward and Rachel Williams running in memory of dad John Cooke, who lost a battle with lung cancer.
