A WIRRAL man will take part in the London Marathon later this year to raise funds for a charity supporting children with cancer.

Victor Hall, from Moreton, will be running for Children with Cancer UK during the event on Sunday, April 13.

The charity funds life-saving research into the causes, prevention and treatment of childhood cancer and works to protect young lives through essential welfare and campaigning programmes.

Victor, 65, is among more than 1,200 people taking part in the marathon. He is busy training and hopes to raise £1,000 through online sponsorship and other fundraising activities.

Victor said: "There are many charities who deserve help, but I can’t think of a worse thing that can happen to a family than finding out that their child has cancer.

"So I am just hoping to relieve a tiny bit of that pain."

Ben Twyman, head of events at Children with Cancer UK, said: "We are a family-focused charity with a wonderful team of dedicated runners who are all committed toraising as much money as they possibly can.

"We rely on their determination and selflessness to continue our work funding life-saving research into all the childhood cancers."
