A WIRRAL dog walker had a lucky escape when she narrowly avoided becoming trapped by the incoming tide in Meols.

The woman had been walking her two dogs in Meols at around 1.10pm this afternoon when the tide began to come in around her.

A spokesman for Liverpool Coastguard said a passer-by on the nearby promenade spotted the woman in peril and called the emergency services.

“She was in a position where the tide was coming in around her. The lady on the promenade called to her but couldn’t attract her attention.”

Four members of the Hoylake Coastguard were sent to her rescue, while New Brighton RNLI's hovercraft was put on alert.

The spokesman continued: “Using the signs and lights on the vehicle we managed to get her attention and point her in the direction she needed to go.

“She ran and managed to get off in time before the tide cut her off.”
