A NEW visitor guide will showcase the best of Wirral in the hope of attracting new visitors.

Wirral Council has unveiled an updated guide aimed at bringing more people to the borough and helping those who are already here to make the most of their visit.

The 60-page guide has been designed by Wirral Council and put together with the help and support of the Wirral Tourism Business Network (WTBN), in collaboration with local businesses.

More than 60,000 copies are now ready to be distributed across the north west.

Councillor Pat Hackett, cabinet member for economy, said: “This year, we welcome one of the finest events in the British sporting calendar back to Wirral. The Open Championship will attract tens of thousands of people into the area who have never before visited Wirral and it is vital that we look after them and ensure they leave with as good an impression of the borough as possible. That way, it is likely they will return.

“The launch of the updated official visitor guide will go some way to showcasing the best that Wirral has to offer and I’d urge everyone who is thinking of coming to the area, either for the golf or for any other of the many events and attractions being staged her this year, to pick up a copy.”

Katherine Lynch, deputy chair of the WTBN, added: “I look forward to working with our partners in every sector to prepare and help make each event as exciting as possible for our visitors – both near and far.

“Indeed, working together is integral to sustaining and growing Wirral's visitor economy and this is the Network's priority both now and in the future."
