Frank Field has been voted Home Affairs Campaigner of the Year by MPs and peers, in recognition of his drive to abolish modern slavery.
The Birkenhead MP, vice-chairman of the Human Trafficking Foundation, said: “This award reflects the important work we have done with the Home Secretary to ensure we develop not just an ordinary anti-slavery bill, but a first-class bill that will lead the global fight against modern slavery.
"I have worked throughout my career to tackle injustice and inequality. But never before had I encountered the pure evilness laid bare in modern slavery.”
The award follows Mr Field’s work on the Slavery Evidence Review Bill, which established a blueprint for abolishing modern slavery, and his current role as chair of a Parliamentary Select Committee scrutinising the Government’s draft Modern Slavery Bill.
