A WALLASEY couple will take to the skies for the charity that helped them cope with the loss of their unborn twins.

Bryan Walters, 48, and wife Angie, 45, were overjoyed to learn they were expecting identical twins.

But in late November they were devastated when Angie had a miscarriage of one of the babies just seven weeks into her pregnancy, followed two weeks later by the loss of their second baby.

On February 15 the couple will take part in a Jump For Love, parachuting 12,000 feet from a plane to raise money for the national charity Saying Goodbye.

It supports people who have lost a child at any stage of pregnancy, at birth or in infancy, whether it was recently or many years ago.

They will jump from Hinton airfield in Northamptonshire.

Bryan, who has worked on the security team at Pyramids Shopping Centre, Birkenhead, for the past 18 years, said: "We are still going through the healing process and as part of that we are getting involved in a special fundraising event being arranged by Saying Goodbye to raise funds for its marvellous work.

"Angie hasn't done anything like this before, but it won’t be my first parachute jump.

"I did one about 12 years ago and raised about £800 for a charity called Child Flight which takes terminally ill children on dream trips to places like the USA.

"That time I jumped from about 15,000 feet and it felt great. In fact, when I landed I asked if I could do it all again.

"This time I suppose I’m a bit more cautious about it because I know what to expect but both Angie and I are looking forward to it very much because this is such a great charity.

“To take part in the skydive people had to pledge a minimum of £400 in sponsorship.

"Angie and I set ourselves a target figure of £1,000 and, thanks to the fantastic support of family, friends and work colleagues, including mine at Pyramids Shopping Centre, we’ve already hit the £1,000 mark.

"On the day of the skydive we’ll be telling ourselves that we’re helping to raise up every baby who has died as we are on our way down.”

Angie has worked at Primark for 21 years and is assistant manager at its Southport branch. She said: "Losing a baby through a miscarriage for anyone is just the worst possible thing.

“You don’t realise it until it happens to you but it can also be a bit of a taboo subject and people don’t really want to talk about it.

"You also realise that there isn’t a lot of support out there to help you get through something like this.

"That’s why Saying Goodbye can be so valuable. They hold these wonderful services which help people to say goodbye to the babies they have lost and also provide quite a lot of practical support through social media.

"We're both looking forward to the skydive. I'm a bit apprehensive about it because I've not done it before but I’m sure everything will be fine on the day.

"Bryan and I have had T-shirts done to help with our fundraising and when we've been wearing them to do our fundraising for the jump it's been surprising how many people have mentioned to us that either they or someone they know has been through a miscarriage, which shows how many times it happens."
