ARMED robbers threatened a shop worker with a knife before escaping with cash and cigarettes during a raid on a Moreton shop last night, Monday.

Police were called to Meadow Brook Store, on Hoylake Road, at around 10.40pm on January 20, following reports of a robbery.

Two men,  described as being 5ft 8in tall and of medium build, entered the shop with what is believed to be a knife and threatened a member of staff before escaping on foot with money and cigarettes.

The member of staff, who received minor injuries in the attack but did not require hospital treatment, was left shaken following his ordeal.

Detectives are speaking to local businesses and examining CCTV footage from the area.

“The shop worker has been put through a distressing incident and I would like to reassure the community that our detectives are actively searching for those responsible,” said Detective Inspector Mark Tivendale.

“One of the men we would like to speak with was wearing blue and red clothes. It is likely that someone wearing brightly coloured clothing would stand out in the street at that time of night and I would appeal to anyone who might have seen the two men to contact police.

"Also I would ask anyone who has been offered cheap packets of cigarettes since the incident to contact police as you might have important information that could assist with the investigation."

Anyone with information is urged to call Wirral CID on 0151 777 2275 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
