A WALLASEY primary school has been recognised for its hard work in leading the way in looking after the environment and showing others how to be green.

Mount Primary School has been hailed an “eco school” for its efforts in operating sustainably – the culmination of three years of tireless work from the school’s eco committee.

As well as being awarded a Green Flag by Eco-Schools – an international award programme that encourages schools to develop sustainable and environmentally friendly principles – Mount Primary has also received a Gold Star Energy Certificate for their work in reducing its energy bills, and is just one point from achieving a C rating.

Deputy headteacher, Clare Higgins, told the Globe the school has focused on three areas – energy, healthy living and developing the school grounds.

An outdoor classroom, nature garden and on-site allotments are just some of the ways the school has gone above and beyond to ensure it promotes a green message to all of its pupils.

Mrs Higgins said: “The whole school community has believed passionately about the importance in protecting our environment and the need to save energy.

“The children have been so focused and driven in raising and tackling environmental issues, receiving our Green Flag means so much to the whole school community.”
