NOT every teenage girl would cut her hair for charity but Wirral schoolgirl Holly Ball has done just that, raising more than £300 for cancer research.

The 13-year-old Wirral Grammar School pupil said farewell to her long locks on Wednesday in an attempt to raise as much money as possible for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

Holly, who has donated her locks to the Little Princess Trust - hit her target of £50 within a few short hours, with the total now at £302 and rising.

Proud mum Leanne said: “A friend of mine was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and she donated her long hair to the Little Princess Trust before she started chemotherapy.

“Holly was thinking of having her hair cut off and I suggested she donate it to the trust too.

“We then decided it would be great to try and raise as much money as possible for the Leukaemia research charity as my mum suffers from blood cancer.”

Holly spent nearly an hour and a half having her hair put into three plaits, which were then cut off and posted to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for children suffering hair loss.

Leanne, who moved to Wirral five and a half years ago with her husband, added: “We hope to carry on raising money for a few more weeks as the response from people has been amazing.

“The generosity of the Wirral people has left us speechless.

“We are so grateful for every penny and as a mum, I am so proud of my daughter for doing such a selfless act.”
