THE doorway of a Wallasey charity shop was damaged in a suspected arson attack involving a bag of donated clothes.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service was called out to the blaze at the shop on Poulton Road at around 4.50am on Sunday.
A spokesman said: “Firefighters were called out to a fire involving a quantity of donated clothing in the doorway of a charity shop on Poulton Road in Wallasey.
“A quantity of clothing was damaged by fire and there was slight fire damge to the shop door.
“There were no reports that anyone was injured in the incident.
“The fire is believed to have been a suspected deliberate ignition.”
A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: "Merseyside Police can confirm that an incident of criminal damage was reported to police in the early hours (5am) of Sunday, January 12 after a collection bag, containing clothing was reported as being on fire .
"No-one was injured but damage was caused to the porch area of a shop on Poulton Road.
"Enquiries continue and anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 or Crimestoppers."
