TWO Wirral pubs have called last orders after bids to find a buyer failed.

The Chronicle, in Bebington, and The Ravenscroft, in Heswall, both closed their doors for the last time on Monday after the Bramwell Pub Company – which both were part of – fell into administration in October.

Despite attempts to find a buyer for the two Wirral watering holes, they were forced to close on January 6.

On Facebook, The Chronicle wrote: “Sad news. The Chronicle has closed! As most people know we went into administration back in October and no one has bought us.

“Thank you for all your support and custom over all the years. Love you all.”

The Ravenscroft posted a similar message on its own Facebook page.

It wrote: “As many of you have heard, The Ravenscroft has closed its doors for the very last time. Due to the Bramwell Pub Company going into liquidation.

“Would just like to thank everybody for all their support over the last five years.”

Buyers have been found for some of the group’s 185 pubs and bars, which employed around 3,300 staff across all sites, with Stonegate Pub Company having completed the acquisition of 78 of the sites in November in a deal believed to be valued at £35m.

Administrators were appointed after the group experienced cash flow problems arising from the “current challenging economic environment”.

Regulars of the pubs have posted messages on social media websites.

Vince Gaynor wrote on Facebook: “This is so sad but how can the pubs carry on fighting against the prices that are on offer in supermarkets and the likes of Bargain Booze.”

Emma Sheldon posted on The Chronicle’s Facebook page: “Was a lovely pub had some great nights out in there. Good luck to all the staff who now have to find jobs.”
