WIRRAL'S budding snappers are encouraged to enter the Young Photographer 2014 competition.

Now in its sixth year, the theme of this year's competition - "Images of War and Peace in Wirral" - has been chosen to link into the build up to the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings and the centenary of the start of the First World War as schools focus on these commemorations.

The competition, organised by The Rotary Club of Birkenhead, has been supported by each Mayor of the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral during their year of office.

This year’s mayor, Cllr. Dave Mitchell, will invite the winning entrants and their families to the Town Hall to receive their prize of £50 and certificate during a reception also attended by the President of The Rotary Club of Birkenhead, Norman Jones.

There are two categories for entrants resident in Wirral, 11 years and under and 12 to 16 years.

Entries should be accompanied by a name, age and a contact telephone number and can be submitted by email attachment to nj@normanjones.co.uk or on disc to Norman Jones, 27 Hamilton Square, Birkenhead CH41 6AZ. The closing date is March 30, 2014.
