A SCHOOLBOY who had to be airlifted to hospital after being struck by a car in Eastham Village has escaped serious injury.

The eight-year-old boy was hit by a Vauxhall Zafira on New Chester Road at around 8am on Friday, December 20.

The youngster, who was believed to have been making his way to school with another boy at the time of the collision, was airlifted to Alder Hey Hospital at 9am after paramedics attended to him at the scene for around an hour.

His injuries were originally feared to be serious but not life-threatening, with Merseyside Police treating the incident as a serious collision.

However, officers have since confirmed that the boy had suffered abrasions to his knees and head.

He was kept in hospital overnight on Friday for observations.

The driver of the Vauxhall Zafira stopped at the scene and was said to be assisting police with their enquiries.
