Police have released CCTV images following an armed robbery at a shop in Bebington on Saturday.

Officers were called to the Co-operative store on Cross Lane at around 7.40pm following reports two men had entered the shop armed with a hatchet and threatened staff.

They escaped with cash and are believed to have run off towards Kirkett Lane.

Detective Inspector Mark Tivendale, of Wirral CID, said: "The offenders brazenly walked into the store at a busy time of the evening when a number of customers were inside.

"It must have been a frightening ordeal for both the staff and the customers caught up in it and we are now determined to trace, arrest and convict the people responsible.

"We are keen to speak to the two people shown in the CCTV images in connection with this incident and I would ask people to take a really good look at the pictures and get in touch if they recognise anything."

Anyone with information should call Wirral CID on 0151 777 2260 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
