POLICE and fire crews rescued a woman from her smoke-filled flat in  Bromborough last night.

Fire appliances from Bromborough, Birkenhead and Upton were called to Hornby Road at around 11.30pm.

A pan of food had set alight in the kitchen, creating thick smoke which filled the property.

Fire crews and police rescued the 43-year-old occupant from her smoke-logged lounge and  administered oxygen.

She was assessed at the scene by paramedics, but declined to go to hospital.

The flat was fitted with fire service smoke alarms, which had actuated.
