Glenys Hunt from Hoylake was today appointed by Liverpool Law Society as its new president.
Ms Hunt is a well known figure in both legal circles and local community groups.
She is a specialist in personal injury and clinical negligence law and currently occupies a senior position with Carpenters Solicitors and is well known in Merseyside for her tenacious but professional litigation skills.
Ms Hunt has a medical background and originally trained as an NHS biomedical scientist.
After deciding to embark on a career change, she obtained a law degree at Lancaster University and qualified as a solicitor in 1994.
She was also awarded a master’s degree in medical law and ethics in 2010.
Ms Hunt is chairwoman of the North West/Liverpool East NHS research ethics committee, which oversees medical research ethics including those relating to children and the maintenance of tissue banks.
Away from her work, she is a prominent member of Heswall and District Soroptomists Club.
