Publisher calls time on Liverpool Post
3:27pm Tuesday 10th December 2013 in News
The Liverpool Post newspaper is to be axed next week.
The Post Business Daily and the Post website will also come to an end on the same date.
The newspaper ceased daily publication in January last year, relaunching as a weekly.
North West managing director Steve Anderson Dixon said: “This is a decision we take with the heaviest of hearts.
“Sadly, the Liverpool city region no longer generates the demand in terms of advertising or circulation to sustain both the Post and the Liverpool Echo.”
Post editor Mark Thomas, who along with other Post staff is likely to be offered a new role with the company, described the decision as the “saddest” moment of his career.
Publisher Trinity Mirror said in a statement: “After an extensive review of its portfolio in the North West, Trinity Mirror is to cease weekly publication of the Liverpool Post newspaper, companion website and the Liverpool Business Daily E-Edition."
The Liverpool Post’s final print edition will be December 19, with the Business Daily coming to an end on the same date.
There will be no journalist jobs lost as a result of the closure.
The paper had a long and distinguished publishing history, having launched in 1855.
