Pupils from two primary schools put old bits of cardboard to good use at the Williamson Art Gallery and Museum last week, transforming them into festive reindeer antlers – the best of which are now on show at the gallery.

Youngsters from St George’s Primary and the Priory Parish Primary worked with the Williamson’s artist in residence Pam Sullivan, as well as recycling officers from Wirral Council, in this seasonal craft activity.

The aim of the exercise was to demonstrate just some of the ways in which seemingly useless bits of cardboard packaging can be transformed into a meaningful activity with a nice work of art at the end of it.

The children’s work will be on display at the Williamson Art Gallery and Museum until Christmas.

Councillor Brian Kenny, Wirral Council cabinet member for environment, joined pupils from St George’s during the morning session on Tuesday.

He said: “As well as providing a different way of recycling these materials, this activity showed the children how they can be creative and have fun at the same time and their work with the paintbrushes, glue and glitter has been really impressive!”
