WIRRAL Schools Concert Band will take part in the NSPCC's Carols by Candlelight carol service next week.

Sponsored by Home Bargains it will be staged at the Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool on Tuesday night, December 17.

Proceeds will go to the charity’s ChildLine Schools Service.

On the night there will readings and musical performances by children from across region, including Stanfield School Choir, alongside traditional music and singing in a candlelit setting.

Also taking part will be Liverpool Signing Choir, who performed at the London 2012 closing ceremony and at the opening ceremony for the 2012 Paralympic Games.

Money raised will support the NSPCC's Now I Know Appeal in aid of the ChildLine School's Service.

The groundbreaking service recruits and trains volunteers to talk to primary school children about different forms of abuse and ways to stay safe.

NSPCC community fundraising manager for Merseyside, Helen Gazzola, said: "Our Carols by Candlelight concert is the perfect way to get into the festive spirit while raising vital funds for a good cause.

"We'd like to invite as many people as possible to join us to celebrate the festive season at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, while at the same time remembering a very important Christmas message, that this is also a time for thinking about some children across the region who are desperately in need of help.”

Tom Morris, managing director at Home Bargains, said: “We’re delighted to be sponsoring Carols by Candlelight once again this year and supporting the NSPCC’s excellent work in the area.

“We hope that the local community will also get behind the charity in the run up to Christmas and attend this moving, festive concert.”

The concert starts at 7:30pm; with doors opening at 7pm. Entry is £8 per adult, £5 for concessions and free for accompanied children under 16.
