Wirral Council’s "What Really Matters" consultation, designed as a guidance document in the preparation of the council’s budget for the coming financial year, closed today.

The results will be considered at a meeting of the council’s cabinet next week.

Cabinet will discuss the findings and make recommendations about where some £27.5m of savings should be found in the coming financial year before recommendations go to full council on December 16.

More than 6,500 residents have responded to the consultation - the highest level of response to any similar exercise in the UK.

It follows a series of over 200 events and meetings with residents, community organisations and other groups over past three months.

Chief executive Graham Burgess said: “The response to the consultation has been fantastic once again, it shows how much people care about their local services and also the confidence they have in us to take their views into consideration when preparing our recommendations to cabinet.”
