MERSEYSIDE Police is warning people to stay away from New Brighton Promenade and Vale Park due the severe weather.

Wirral people are being urged that parts of the coastline are considered dangerous at this time, due to the Force 7 to 8 gales that are whipping up high tides.

The police say they will keep people updated with any further incidents or closures as the day progresses.

Louise Boswell, who has lived at The Cliff, New Brighton, for 30 years, told the Globe that the promenade was virtually impassable.

She said: “You cannot see the three dips any more – they’re just full of water. The back road is full of water.

“It’s just horrendous – it’s just as if the sea has come right up on the back road.

“The roads are blocked and traffic is stopped.

“I have lived here for 30 years and only once have I seen it like this.

“You just can’t see the Greens – it’s like they’re not even there. I can’t see the back road – it’s just water.”

The Environment Agency has issued a Flood Warning for Birkenhead Woodside and a Flood Alert for the West Wirral coast.

South Parade and Dee Lane in West Kirby and Egremont Promenade are currently all closed due to high winds and flooding.

Travel disruption has also been caused by the weather, with trains across the whole Merseyrail network facing cancellations and delays.

Mersey Ferry crossing have also been postponed until further notice.

The stormy weather is expected to continue throughout the day, with gales of 60-to-80mph.
