HUNDREDS watched as kind-hearted Moreton neighbours switched on their Christmas lights for a 10th time in aid of Claire House on Sunday.

For the last nine years residents in Amberley Close have worked together to create a winter wonderland to raise cash for the hospice.

The lights were switched on by Birkenhead actress and comedienne Pauline Daniels and Radio Merseyside presenter Roger Lyon during an event on Sunday, which was attended by around 300 people.

The tradition, which has so far raised more than £9,000, was started by Karen and Frank Williams and next-door neighbours Peter and Sandra George.

They wanted to help towards giving the children at the Clatterbridge-based hospice a Christmas to remember.

Before the lights were turned on, there was entertainment from Val Hollywood from Wirral Orchestra Society as well 1940s tribute band Vintage.

Following Sunday's switch-on Karen Williams told the Globe: "I want to thank everyone who took time out to come and support us.

"It means so much and hopefully we will help us boost the funds for Claire House."

Roger Lyon said: "I’m very happy to be here. To be honest, when they asked me to do it I didn’t really know what to expect. But, it’s just amazing.

"The fact that they do it is such a huge plus for them and Claire House.

“It just shows you what such a small part of the community can do."

A donation box for children to leave letters to Father Christmas is also at the house.

If leaving your letter, remember to leave your contact details, as all will be replied to.
