A special fundraising event with acclaimed Wirral-based writer Kevin Sampson in conversation with Liverpool Football Club legend John Barnes takes place next month.

This evening will give the audience an insight into the life of one of Britain’s most talented footballers, a profile which also projected him into his acting role in Gurinder Chadha’s award-winning feature film Bend It Like Beckham.

The audience will learn how a young Jamaican teenager transformed his life to become an international football player and manager.

That’s one of the many topics that Kevin, who penned Awaydays, Powder and The Killing Pool, will be tackiling when he interviews John  on Tuesday, December 3, at Liverpool’s Epstein Theatre.

The event has been organised by Clapperboard UK - a nonprofit making and charitable organisation which has worked successfully with more than 1,000 young people across the North West in the field of creative visual arts.

John said: “I am delighted to participate in this event to raise much needed funds for Clapperboard's 2013/14 youth project.

"In 2007 I participated as a jury member for the Clapperboard awards ceremony and was impressed with the short films produced by young people and how the project has gone from strength to strength.”

Kevin said: “I've been lucky enough to work with Clapperboard from the start, so this event with one of Liverpool's top three greatest players of all time is a fitting way of highlighting and celebrating the work Clapperboard does in the city."

The fundraiser takes place on Tuesday, December 3, at the Epstein Theatre, Hanover Street, Liverpool. Doors open at 6.30pm and the performance starts at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £12.50 or £10 with concessions. The price includes post-event complimentary drink and food at Ma Egerton’s Stage Door.

To book, telephone 0844 888 4411, visit www.epsteinliverpool.co.uk or book in person at the theatre box office, open from 2pm to 6pm, Monday to Saturday.
